Biochemist with expertise in the development of technologies in the high-value low-volume sectors of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
My biotechnology research programme includes work on the development of novel biosensors, with a wide range of commercial applications in medical and environmental sciences. Biosensors make use of the unique features of bio-molecular recognition with the appropriate physical and chemical transducers, to convert the concentration of the substance being monitored into an electrical signal. This 'chemical intelligence' has a range of applications, in health management for the non-invasive diagnosis and management of disease (e.g. blood glucose monitoring), in environmental monitoring and measurement of pollutants, defence and security, agriculture, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
